A dental filling is often needed because a cavity has been found. We can check for cavities during your bi-annual appointments as well as during emergency visits. In some cases, dental x-rays are needed to help us find and identify decay so that a filling can be placed. Fillings are matched to your existing dentition so that they blend beautifully.

Most patients who have cavities are good candidates for fillings. Pediatric patients as well as adults can have fillings placed, since they prevent the spread of decay that would eventually lead to needing a root canal. The procedure is quick, easy and can be done in under a half hour in our office. Multiple fillings can be placed, if needed, at the same appointment depending on the location of the filling needed within the mouth.

The area will be numbed using a local anesthetic. The decay is then carefully and fully removed from the tooth. The small hole is then prepped for the composite resin and the material poured into place. We then smooth the material so that it fits comfortably within the hole that was created. A bright curing light hardens the composite and creates a durable, tight fit for the new filling. Your new filling will last for many years with proper care.
