Sleep Apnea Treatment
What is Sleep Apnea Treatment?
Sleep apnea is an incredibly common, yet serious sleep disorder. With sleep apnea, you will experience short and frequent pauses in your breathing throughout the night. With a custom made dental appliance, we are able to treat your sleep apnea and the symptoms that are associated with it. These oral devices are easy to wear and are typically more comfortable than a CPAP machine.
Why is Sleep Apnea Treatment needed?
Sleep apnea can cause a variety of health problems in your everyday life. Not only are you not able to sleep fully and may feel exhausted throughout the day, but there have been links to serious health conditions like diabetes and heart disease that are related to sleep apnea. Treating your sleep apnea at home has never been easier than with a dental device. If you’re currently using a CPAP machine and are finding it difficult or impossible to wear, these devices can be a perfect alternative.
What makes you a good candidate for Sleep Apnea Treatment?
You will come in for a consultation and exam prior to being fitted for an oral device designed to treat sleep apnea. It is important that you actually wear the appliance nightly so that it is effective at treating the condition. You will need to keep the appliance clean by soaking it in mouthwash and brushing it using a soft bristle toothbrush. You can expect the appliance to last for several years before it’s recommended you have it replaced.
What happens during Sleep Apnea Treatment?
Impressions are taken to help us design a custom made oral device. The device is smoothed and adjusted for a completely comfortable fit. You will need to wear the device nightly in order for it to be effective. The device works by opening the upper airway to help prevent sleep apnea from occurring throughout the night. You may need to have the appliance replaced every few years as it begins to show signs of wear.
